Seizures due to epilepsy (meaning they don't knot the cause of the re-occurring seizures) rarely cause death. Usually the body's inhibitory system (within the nervous system) kicks in and makes the seizure stop after 1-4 minutes. If a seizure lasts more than 4 or 5 minutes then call emergency.

If the seizure is due to some other abnormality (like a brain tumor) then it is not usually the seizure that kills a person, but the underlining issue - such as the cancer.

Often times the seizure is not the cause of death, but the ignorance of someone dealing with it may be a cause. For example, sometimes people think they know well and try to help but may kill a person in trying to stop a seizure.

Also the seizure may not kill a person, but the activity they do during the seizure might…such as driving a car or bike, operating dangerous machinery, etc…

Most people with epilepsy (almost 99%) will not die from it.

    Hope that helps.
