Having uncontroled seizures are stressful. I have grandmal and complex partial seizures. The aura comes on when the complex partial occurs and I try to get my VNS. I have a question has anyone ever heard of someone with seizures look like they are having a seizure and it actually is a flashback? I am going to therapy and in my session my therapist said I had a flashback. My family have no idea of my past and now I am gettin nervous. I would like to know if anyone has had anything experience like this. Flashback that look like seizures.

I want to thanks Auntie and Dr. Gary because I have been working hard with my counselor. Embarassment isnt quite issue because what I say I know stays with her.

Hey Jaybird, I am not an expert on this in any way. riverkings brings up an interesting finding about flashbacks and PTSD. I'm glad that you are working on this with a counselor!

I have never heard of anything like that before. Why does your therapist, that wasn't there when it happened, think it was a flashback and not a seizure. I was curious a did a little search for it and what I found says it can be associated with PTSD . You are right, uncontrolled seizures are very stressful, hopeful one day we can all say goodbye to seizures. Good luck in your search.

Thank you for looking into this and repling. All she had said that words came out but could not understand them. I was diagnosed with PTSD so that is interesting. I get embarrassed when talking with my therapist and clam up when something different comes up in my session with her. Thanks again.

Okay, so you are saying the "flashback" happened while you were in a therapy session?

Riverkings found through her research that flashbacks can be associated with PTSD.

You were diagnosed with PTSD; so why not try to put aside (I know it isn't easy) your embarassment when talking about something different with your therapist. No one else needs to know what you talk to your therapist about, and this sounds to me like something that needs to be pursued to a resolution.

Dealing with PTSD or Epilepsy is difficult. Dealing with both at the same time has to be really tough. In my opinion, you need to attempt to resolve the PTSD issues so you can concentrate on the seizures. Especially considering how the PTSD seems to be manifesting through the flashbacks. I'm not saying it will be easy, but definitely worthwhile.

Maybe you can first deal with the embarassment issue with the therapist. Just try to think about how important it is to your well-being to put all of the issues out there, to enable the therapist to make the correct assessments for your treatment.
